Thought I'd start a topic where you guys can stop in to update us on what's going on in your lives (big stuff, small stuff, happy stuff, sad stuff, etc). Building a house? New job? Baby on the way? A bizarre repressed memory from high school resurfaces?
Let us know!
I'll get the ball rolling with the next post.....

Well....not a ton happening these days....other than registering my daughter (who turned 14 yesterday) for high school! EEEEEAAAHHHH! I can't believe it! I refuse to believe it!
For those of you with "little ones", you'll be doing the same thing in no time. When "they" say raising your children goes by fast...."they" weren't kidding.

Repressed memory? We took Ali rollerskating on Sunday - Yes, World of Wheels outlasted Saints Roller Rink is still there. I do not think I have been on wheels in at least 25 years. We had a ton of fun and used muscles that have been sitting idle for many years. Anyway, I felt like I was in Jr. High again, wondering when I would get picked for the Snowball!

Hi Mark and Dar, I was just cruising the central high school web site and wandered on to your class reunion photos. Looks like you all had fun.
I retired in 2003, took one year off to restore my brain cells, and am now tutoring at Lake Superior College. I am teaching (sort of) without the hassle.
Take care and hello to all the wonderful members of your class.

WOW! Ms. Fahrion dropped by! Okay...I know you don't mind us calling you "Kathy"......but I guess you'll always be "Ms. Fahrion" to Dar and I. ;D Glad to hear you made a successful "transition" to retired life, and that you're still staying involved through your tutoring. My parents (and, I suspect, the parents of many Central classmates) are also in the process of retiring. It's an "interesting" time, to say the least, with a range of accompanying emotions...but on balance they're pretty happy to be "turning the page" to a new chapter. Oh, and just to let you know: When the topic of "Favorite Teachers" came up during our reunion conversations, your name was frequently mentioned. Your impact on many of us from the Class of '84 was profound and is fondly remembered. Dar and I hope we can visit you some time when we're visiting Duluth...and if you're open to that...or if there's a preferred time of year for that sort of thing, just email me by clicking the link below: mengblom@cnonline.netTake care, Kathy (Ms. Fahrion), and keep in touch! You know where to find us! -Mark Engblom

Mark, I am registering Casey, my son for his first year in HS as well... And Aly is going to be a JUNIOR!! Can you even believe it? God, I remember when we were so grown up as juniors hahaha! Well, she's driving round town, going on dates.... And studying for SAT's... I certainly don't remember really studying for SAT's... I mean I remember umm sitting around with friends goofing off instead of studying...or hanging out at Dave's house.. pretending to study hahaha!! So anyway... somethings never change I guess... I've got college to worry about in a couple years... And the usual "where has the time gone woes"

Hello again,
The fond memories are certainly returned by me. Please contact me when you come to Duluth--We can have a Johnson-Fahrion reunion.
I enjoy the tutoring as well as the flexibility of packing my suitcase and locking the door behind me. My golden retriever, Phoebe, is a constant companion and is welcome at my mom's house when I visit friends and family.
I hope all of you are enjoying your children (young adults).
Take care, Kathy Fahrion

How cool to hear from Ms Fahrion!!! I was a closet english class lover. I would have never admitted it back then, but it was always one of my favorite classes, and she was one of my favorite teachers. I think she knew it though. Anyway - thanks Ms Fahrion - you were a great teacher! Thanks to Mark too for keeping this site going! I checked out a couple of the other DCHS reunion sites, and I can say with confidence that this site and the participation from the '84 grads is outstanding! We still rule! If you want to see the 1985 video - which is absolutely hilarious by the way - check it out on Launch (through Yahoo). You can download music videos, and it's free. Can't tell you much more than that as I am not the computer guru in my house. You can ask my daughters though!!! I just registered our oldest daughter for high school (10th grade), and boy did that take some of the spring out of my step! I'm excited for her, and a little nervous at the same time. She turned 15 yesterday! I didn't mean to write so much, but I also wanted to say that I wish I would have been more social and talked to more people at the reunion. I guess I'm kind of shy!!! I've never been a great mixer. Enough from me for now. Gotta go dress some kids and get my day moving. Take care everybody!!!! Dawn (Olson)

The Skin of Our Teeth (Thornton Wilder) and The Scarlett Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne)...a couple of my favorites, actually the only two I remember reading 22 years ago! Ms. Fahrion was one of my VERY favorite teachers!

Thanks to Mark too for keeping this site going! I checked out a couple of the other DCHS reunion sites, and I can say with confidence that this site and the participation from the '84 grads is outstanding! We still rule! Thanks for the kind words, Dawn. It really hasn't been much work at all keeping the website going. I haven't added any new content in a LONG time...though perhaps I'll get around to it one of these days. If anyone has any ideas for the kinds of new stuff you'd want to see on the site, just let me know. Hey Tiz...I remember some books I read in Ms. Fahrion's class: The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. I can't tell you how dramatic an impact this book had on me, since it was the first "great literature" book that really got through to me on just how GOOD writing can be, and how the English language could be crafted into such beautiful, evocative forms. The other book I clearly remember was Billy Budd by Herman Melville. This one was tough and very difficult to understand, since it was written in a form of 19th century English this late-20th century teenager found incredibly confusing. I still remember a few of us begging... begging...Ms. Fahrion to let us read something else other than Billy Budd, but to her credit she didn't cave in. She made us slog through it, which forced us to use our brains and figure it out....setting us up for all of those times to come where we'd have to overcome unpleasant, difficult tasks. Thanks, Ms. Fahrion! You have no idea how much that simple lesson taught us....or maybe you do. Perhaps you had a "Ms. Fahrion" type of teacher that taught you the same lesson.

Mark -
I guess I vaguely remember Red Badge of Courage, but Billy Budd?? I must have given up on the begging and totally blocked it out.
For some reason I am kind remebering you in class and probably Dar, too......or was it Ms. Lauterbach's class our SR year, or was it Mr. Velander's Honors gov class? I don't know, everything seems to be blended together. I did just see Mr. Velander on the news up here for Valentines Day. His group was performing somewhere for Valentines Day, so they got a spot on the news. He looks the same.
Dawno - what were some of the other class websites? I wanted to check them out, too.

Hi Tiz! I went to Central's website and there are links to a couple of different class reunion web pages. Nothing too exciting, so don't get your hopes up!
Mark, et.al; I wish I could remember more from highschool. Seems all I can remember is always being grounded!!! I read ALL THE TIME in high school, but can't really recall anything other than the Scarlet Letter and Death of a Salesman. I'm trying to pick up the books again, and had a fairly good year last year - I read 6 whole books! Not bad for having four kids and a full time job! Now I'm at home full time and need something to do just for me, so I'll see if I can read at least one book a month. My favorites from last year are The Davinci Code, Angels and Demons and Flyboys. I'm trying to read Night Over Water by Ken Follet right now, but have picked it up and put it down so many times, I don't know if I'll ever finish it. Any suggestions?

Hi DAwn and Tiz, I got lost in the music section. Never heard of any of 'em. Billy Budd bit the dust when grad "nonstandards" came in. Had to cut books in order to complete the requirements. However, he is still in my heart. As for Red Badge of Courage--think of the young people in Iraq.
Yes, I had a wonderful teacher and she brought out the best in me. Harriet Spraitz Generoux--my Spanish teacher and Speech advisor.
Take care all of you and I love my tutoring job. Kathy Fahrion
